My residency at Trinity Buoy Wharf is underway
My residency at Trinity Buoy Wharf is underway, but my workspace is not quite ready so throughout November I’ve been based in the Lighthouse, which offers a great vantage point to see what’s happening on the Wharf. Early on I became intrigued by a group of guys who were mending the river wall. It turned out they are from interesting backgrounds including Carpentry and Boat Piloting, I picked their brains about Buoy manufacture they are very knowledgeable. I also met the Team who are restoring and preserving The SS Robin; Steve, Nathan, Will and Ray and made a few sketches. The light in the Lighthouse is fiercely contrasting, quite dark in places. It also houses Longplayer so my drawing has been accompanied by the quite eery sound of its ‘singing bowls’.
I’ve also been working in the Orchard Cafe on site. I decided to trial Stitch and Sketch meet ups on Tuesday mornings inviting people to join me for an hour or two, either to work on something of their own or to contribute to a community cross-stitch. In this way I hoped to be a visible artist in residence and meet some of the people based at the Wharf.
Sketch and Stitch starts again on Tuesday 14th January 2025. 64 Orchard Pl, London E14 0JW
